Safety Feature: ANCAP Safety App

If you’re looking to buy a car, the moment you do your research you will continue to hear about the ANCAP safety rating. It’s an important rating and an important factor to take into consideration when you are purchasing your car.

What is ANCAP? ANCAP stands for the Australasian New Car Assessment Program and is ‘Australiasia’s leading independent vehicle safety advocate’. To find out more you can read about ANCAP here. What is important to know is it’s an independent body, that evaluates the safety of cars, puts them through rigorous evaluative criteria and then boils down all the complicated technicalities into a very helpful 5 star review. Nice and easy. Obviously the higher the stars the better the car performed.

As the title says, there is an app. It’s a really helpful tool  so yo

u can cross check between cars as you evaluate between models. Also, with the Takata airbag recalls repeatedly in the news as large swaths of cars are added to the recall list – we recommen

d either downloading the app, or spending some time on the website and look up every car in your family to make sure they are not affected.

We also recommend it because of one very helpful feature – the Crash Log. This is an app that you shouldn’t just download and delete after buying your car. Never quite sure what to do after an accident, follow the crash log guide – take photos, get the right information and save it within the crash log.

You can read more about the app here, and it’s available on both the App Store and Google Play.

Or… you can go to the website and take perverse enjoyment in watching videos of cars you hate being pummeled in the name of crash testing. Like the clip below, in the name of research, beautiful smashy smashy research.
