The New BMW M2

We have been counting down the days until the highly anticipated release of the all-new BMW M2.

The M2 will feature lightweight axles and is available in either a six-speed manual or seven-speed double-clutch automatic as featured pm the M4. TheM2 also has a single-turbo straight six engine, with 272kW of power and 465Nm of torque, while on over-boost during overtaking moves or for short bursts than can be upped to 500Nm of torque.

Priced from $89,900 plus on-road costs for the Pure base model and $98,900 for the range-topping M2, this new flagship member of the 2 Series range costs almost half what was once asked for the larger M4 Coupe, although the M4 is only slightly larger (2812 mm wheelbase on the M4 compared with 2693 mm wheelbase for the M2).

A unique optional sports exhaust system adds 80mm quad tailpipes with carbon-fibre and embossed M symbols. The optional system gives the driver two modes to select with either ‘Sport’ for public road motoring or a ‘Track’ mode for a more aggressive and rude soundtrack.

BMW has also introduced a range of exclusive ‘M Performance’ options for the M2 Coupe, allowing owners to customise the looks, performance and sound of their M2 for a unique finish. A range of aesthetic options are also available with carbon-fibre splitters on the front, mirrors, side sills, rear diffuser and boot lip which are all not just for show but enhance the vehicle’s aerodynamics. There is also a sports suspension system available with a 16 rebound and 12 compression settings to enhance the perfect chassis response on different circuits.

On the interior, the M2 has the option of the carbon-fibre trim kit to the gear selector, centre console, handbrake, door handles, dashboard, and on the M Performance steering wheel. The Upgraded steering wheel also has a race display which includes acceleration and lap time information as well as a shift light to assist the driver with perfectly-timed gear shifts.

M Performance LED-illuminated sill trims, branded floor mats and stainless steel pedal covers complete the list of performance parts. Our verdict? We want one!
